Operation CERT 2020! (CERT, Covid Emergency Response Team) On Saturday Aug 29, 2020 we hosted our first ever, online benefit fundraiser, to buy food and essential supplies for the Indigenous Mayans, who live in the rural Guatemala, and the Indigenous Tagbanwa people in a remote village on an island in the Philippines.
Here in the USA, COVID-19 has hit us all really hard. Many of us have lost jobs, employment, and businesses, forcing countless Americans to file for unemployment and/or government assistance. And the majority of Americans received a stimulus check, to help ends meet. Now, imagine you live in the 3rd world, where you can only dream of such things. Imagine you eeked a living from tourism, and suddenly all the tourist stopped coming, with no end in sight. Imagine you say your income, and soon your food pantry dry up. This is the reality for MANY people in the world, and no one is hit harder than the Indigenous population.
In 2009 I founded GO! Ministries (www.goministries.info) and my family and I lived for 3 years amongst the Indigenous Mayans in rural mountains of Central Guatemala. 80% of Mayan children suffer from chronic malnutrition. In 2006 I began working in the Philippines.
As a missionary, I felt compelled to help. So, I formed "GO! EAT", which fed over 400 children, every school day. COVID is providing a very difficult situation for folks in the USA, and other 1st World Nations, now imagine living in the 3rd World.
